Yoshitomo Nara

Research what they (Yoshitomo Nara)  make and any interesting personal information.  Choose one work of art they have made, and write a 2-3 paragraph essay about the artist and the work you chose.  Include a FORMAL ANALYSIS of the work.  The last paragraph should be your thoughts and feelings on the artist/art.

There is no formal formatting requirement. Just make sure you write in complete sentences and that you put effort into your essay.

To get full credit, all the following elements of the essay must be included:

  1. Who the artist is and information about them
  2. Which work of art you chose (You must also upload a picture of the art you chose to write about- I want to see it too!)
  3. A formal analysis of the art work you chose
  4. Your thoughts about the artist and their work. Why did you pick this artist? Did you know about them before? What do you like about their work?

For a formal analysis of the artwork, make sure to talk about how the artist used elements of design such as line, shape, form, value, color texture, as well as composition elements like contrast, balance, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, unity/variety, mass, scale, etc. In any work of art, all of these elements and principles will be present, but some will be more obvious than others. When engaging in formal analysis, students should select the elements they feel are most strongly represented in the piece they are analyzing.
