Via Canvas, students will submit a video where they explain to their classmates how \u201cliveness\u201d functioned in for a particular historical theatrical performance. The initial video is worth 80 points. Students will then respond to two other student\u2019s video. The responses are worth 10 points each. (100 points)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • What would it have been like to attend a production in a theatre from the past?<\/li>
  • How does the concept of “liveness” today differ from how it was understand in that particular moment?<\/li>
  • What place did theatre have in society?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    • 4-6 Minute Video Presentation TOTAL<\/strong>
      • Video may be:
        • Presentation with Audio (PowerPoint, Keynote, etc.)<\/li>
        • Self-Recorded Video with Detailed Explanations<\/li>
        • Or something else! Get creative! Think of the historical\/education videos we have watched in this quarter!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
          • Time Breakdown:<\/strong>
            • 1-2 minutes<\/strong> that explain “What would it have been like to attend a production in a theatre from the past?”
              • What historical moment are you discussing?<\/li>
              • What did the theatre look like? (Theatre configuration, indoor\/outdoor, seating, etc.)<\/li>
              • What plays and playwright were popular?<\/li>
              • Who attended? Why?<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
              • 1-2 minutes<\/strong> that explain “How does the concept of “liveness” today differ from how it was understand in that particular moment?
                • What does “liveness” mean in a contemporary theatre, based upon the readings and viewings for this class?<\/li>
                • If you had to define “liveness” from that time period, how would you conceptualize it? <\/li>
                • What ere the expectations of the audience during the “live” event?<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
                • 1-2 minutes<\/strong> that explain “What place did theatre have in society?”
                  • What class\/classes of people went to the theatre?<\/li>
                  • Was theatre banned? Censored?<\/li>
                  • Who could write plays? Who could perform in plays? Who could watch plays?<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
                    • Additional info:
                      • The video presentation MUST <\/strong>incorporate vocabulary from the course. You want your reader to visualize what you are describing so select examples from your research that stuck out to you and\/or incorporate visuals into your presentation.<\/li>
                      • You MUST <\/strong>submit a bibliography with all of your sources below your posted video. DO NOT USE Wikipedia. I will read all of the pages ahead of time and you will receive a zero if I find substantial information pull for Wikipedia. Citations MUST be present for any direct quotes, internet research,<\/strong> etc<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                        1) Choose your theatre! Your options are:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
                          • Theatre of Dionysus, Golden Age of Athens<\/li>
                          • Roman Theatre at Orange, Roman Empire<\/li>
                          • Blackfriars Theatre, Elizabethan England<\/li>
                          • Drury Lane Theatre, English Restoration<\/li>
                          • Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise, French Neoclassicism (Louis XIV)<\/li>
                          • Lianozov Theatre, Moscow Art Theatre<\/li>
                          • Deutsche Nationaltheater, Weimar Republic<\/li>
                          • Lewis Wharf, Provincetown Players<\/li>
                          • Theater am Schiffbauerdamm, Berliner Ensemble<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                            ** Pay attention to the theatre name AND the company\/time period referenced for the historical period you must research **<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            If you have another historical theatre you would like to research, reach out to your instructor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            2)  Research!<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

                            Your research should include investigating the theatre, its audiences, and its historical time period. Make sure to answer the questions above as fully as you can!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Remember, you MUST<\/strong> submit a bibliography with all of your sources below your posted video. Make sure to keep track of your sources as your go. Citations MUST<\/strong> be present for any direct quotes, internet research, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            3) Make your video!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Your video can be in any format you wish, as long as it answers the required questions.
                            You can be as creative or lame as you wish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            However, be sure you critically engage with course vocabulary<\/strong> and utilize the specific information\/research on your historical theatre.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            3) Respond to your classmates’ videos!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            As with your discussion boards, you are required to respond to two <\/strong>other videos from the class. Your responses can be questioning, thinking alongside, and\/or interrogating any relevant component of the videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                            Grading Explanation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
