  1. Choose One Set of Sources <\/strong>from the PDFs attached.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Click and choose one of the following <\/strong>sets of sources <\/strong>to analyze. Each set includes one written document and one image. You must analyze BOTH sources together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. On a separate Word document<\/strong>, analyze the sources by identifying the following:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      • Title, Date Created, Author\/s, Type of Source (Image, News Article, Speech, Law, Novel, Autobiography, etc.)<\/li>
      • What is 1 critical historical question<\/u><\/strong>that you had after reading these sources?<\/li>
      • The main argument\/s. In other words, “what did the creator\/s of the source\/s want to convince its audience to believe?”<\/li>
      • At least 2 pieces of evidence<\/strong>used in each<\/strong> source to support the main argument. You may use short, direct quotations from the source.<\/li>
      • Note: Images also have arguments and evidence. It is your job to interpret them in the context of the class materials.<\/li>
      • At least 1 Value <\/strong>and 1 Limitation <\/strong>of each<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
        • In other words, “how does this source help us understand the historical moment in which it was written (Value) and what is underemphasized or unclear in the source (Limitation)?” <\/li>
        • This is <\/em>your main argument about why this source is important.<\/em><\/li>
        • Why do you <\/em>think this source is significant to understanding the themes and events presented in class? This is also <\/em>your main argument about why this source is important.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
          1. INCLUDE YOUR CRITICAL HISTORICAL QUESTION IN THE FIRST PARAGRAPH of your essay<\/strong>. Your analysis should be an attempt to address your question using your observations about the sources AND how they connect to lectures and\/or readings.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
            • In other words: \u201cHow can you use your question to help you analyze the sources?\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
              1. Include in-text parenthetical citations<\/strong>in your analysis. You may abbreviate these citations. Citations do not count <\/strong>toward the final word count.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                Example in-text citation: (Lecture, date); (Perspectives on American Imperialism, page #); (Takaki, page #); (Ethnic Notions<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
