This first impression is part of your personal brand and must be a tailored, truthful, dynamic, and concise written presentation of your skills and experiences.&nbsp; You will learn best practices for composing and building a resume that aligns with the expectations of the Neff College of Business and Innovation.&nbsp; It will be reviewed and critiqued at least once by 5\/3\/22in order to receive 50 completion points.&nbsp; Resumes that are not ready for review will receive partial credit until adequate effort has been applied to the document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before creating or making any edits to your existing resume, please note <strong>Optimal Resume is the preferred platform for resume construction.<\/strong>&nbsp; If your resume formatting does not align with the resume construction expectations of the College, you will be asked to move your content to Optimal.&nbsp; If you are concerned about formatting and styling, use the various captures in the <strong>Optimal Resume and Resume Construction content area in our course menu in Blackboard<\/strong>.&nbsp; Or, if you have a resume that was not built in Optimal, let Amy see it so she can assess formatting.&nbsp; Do not rebuild a resume in Optimal without first consulting with Amy.Virtual class sessions, assigned learning materials and the resources available to you from the <a href=\"https:\/\/utcoba.optimalresume.com\/\">Optimal Resume site<\/a> (from the home page select the pre-recorded trainings listed under Optimal Webinars; or, once you are in the Document Center, select the Help tab or the Resume Writing Guide in Resources) will help as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tips<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Contact the instructorif you have questions on composition or use of the Optimal Resume builder.<\/li><li>Incorporate, meaningfully, keywords you have identified and highlightedfrom yourJob Vacancyassignment on your resume. &nbsp;This will be used to evaluate its content.<\/li><li>Highlightorunderlineas many ofthe keywords from the job vacancyon the resumeas you can to demonstrate your knowledge, understanding, and application of these skills.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>Do not include a \u201csoft\u201d skills section<\/strong>.&nbsp; Skills\/keywords will be woven naturally into your experience.&nbsp; Any exceptions must be approved by the instructor.<\/li><li>Write in the <strong>first person, without the use of \u201cI, me, or my,\u201d<\/strong> (analyze, coordinate, versus analyzes, coordinates).<\/li><li>Begin bulleted statements with <strong>present\/past tense action verbs, not gerunds <\/strong>(initiate, launched, versus initiating, launching) and include quantifiable information.See pages 6 and 7for a comprehensive list of action verbs!<\/li><li>Avoid using the verbs \u201cwork\u201d and \u201cassist.\u201d&nbsp; They are dull, generic, and assumed.<\/li><li>Incorporate dates into your awards, organizations, and service in addition to your employment.&nbsp; When doing so, bear in mind the need to keep formatting consistent!&nbsp; For example, if your employment dates are right justified, your other dates should be, too.<\/li><li>Refer to the <strong>Resume Checklist on page 3<\/strong>.&nbsp; Expectations you need to know to complete this resume can be found there.<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>Access the <strong>sample resume, page 4<\/strong>, and the<strong>sample job vacancy, page 5<\/strong>, to see how keywords are taken from a job vacancy and woven into a resume.<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>Review the various resumes in the Resume Samples folder in the Optimal Resume and Resume Construction area in the Blackboard course menu for ideas.<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>Use the <strong>list of Action Verbs on pages 6 and 7<\/strong>to locate excellent verbs for use on your resume or LinkedIn profile.<strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Onceyou have built\/edited your resume, spell-check it and style it to your liking.&nbsp; Refer to the Styling your Resume Vimeo found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/utcoba.optimalresume.com\/\">Optimal Homepage<\/a> under \u201cOptimal Webinars,\u201d to create a resume that is unique to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Submission Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Attend your scheduled review with Amy or her graduate assistant (GA), Anna.<\/li><li>Provided the content is meaningful, 50 points will be loaded into the grade center.&nbsp; If another draft needs to be prepared, partial credit will be awarded until the resume may be reviewed again.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>See \u201cHow to Set Up a Required Virtual Resume Review\u201d on page 2<\/strong> to schedule your review.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Resume Checklist<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Header<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are the style and abbreviations, if used, consistent?<\/li><li>Have you included your <em>appropriate<\/em> e-mail address, current or permanent address, cell phone, LinkedIn url?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Career Focus or Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Is it customized to a <strong>specific employer, position title, with at least three keywordshighlighted<\/strong> (transferable or relevant skills\/qualities from the job vacancy)?&nbsp; Consider composing the statement like this: \u201cTo apply skill, skill, and skill as a position title with company.\u201d<\/li><li>Is it employer-centered rather than self-centered? (What you will <em>bring<\/em> to the employer, not what <em>you<\/em> want)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Is your most recent degree listed first?&nbsp; It is a Bachelor of Business Administration.<\/li><li>Is the AACSB Accreditation included?<\/li><li>Are all degrees, majors, minors, certifications included?<\/li><li>Is The University of Toledo spelled out, and is the location, (city and state) included?<\/li><li>Is month and year of graduation included, not years attended?<\/li><li>Is grade point average accurate? Include both overall and major GPA\u2019s if they are over 3.0.<\/li><li>Is High School information omitted?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Accomplishments\/Achievements\/Honors\/Scholarships (academic, employment, involvement)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are accomplishments specific and relevant?<\/li><li>Are high school accomplishments omitted unless they are unique and relevant accomplishments?<\/li><li>Are scholarships and honor affiliations spelled out?<\/li><li>Did you include the date(s) inducted or awarded?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Specialized Competencies (Suggested headings: Languages, Technical, Design, Industry-specific software)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are they relevant to position sought?<\/li><li>Is level of competency described with the skill? (e.g., Proficient, Familiar, Fluent, etc.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Relevant Courses (only if there is limited experience)&nbsp; See instructor for assistance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are course titles used rather than course numbers?<\/li><li>Are obvious courses omitted and only relevant (related to the position sought) included?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Have you categorized your experience into \u201cRelevant Experience\u201d and \u201cOther Experience\u201d if applicable?<\/li><li>Is your most relevant experience listed first?<\/li><li>Are position titles, name, city, and state of organization and dates employed included? (no street addresses)<\/li><li>Are descriptions of your experiences quantified? (for example, trained 10 employees)?<\/li><li>Are <em>bulleted statements<\/em> composed with past or present tense <em>action verbs<\/em>? (\u201cDrafted and organized\u201d versus \u201cDuties included: drafting and organizing\u201d)?<\/li><li>Are <strong>transferable skills highlighted<\/strong> and woven in to show skills built versus responsibilities completed?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Activities\/Service\/Memberships\/Organizations\/Affiliations\/Professional Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are activities and memberships spelled out, meaning, not just acronyms?<\/li><li>Do activities demonstrate leadership, time management, coordination or similar skills?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Appearance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Length appropriate for content and spaced well?
