{"id":3047,"date":"2022-04-15T22:44:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-15T22:44:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/highclasswriters.com\/blog\/?p=3047"},"modified":"2022-04-15T22:44:01","modified_gmt":"2022-04-15T22:44:01","slug":"the-purpose-of-criminal-sentences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/highclasswriters.com\/blog\/the-purpose-of-criminal-sentences\/","title":{"rendered":"The Purpose of Criminal Sentences"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>According to the textbook, the goals of sentencing include (p. 393):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Rehabilitation- changing the offender\u2019s behavior<\/li><li>Retribution- justly and fairly punishing the offender for the crimes that they committed<\/li><li>Incapacitation- removing the offender from society for the protection of others<\/li><li>Deterrence- discouraging the offender and possibly others from committing crimes in the future<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider the following to guide the direction of your paper:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Are punishments today becoming too punitive? Consider the so-called \u201cdebasement penalties.\u201d (p. 393).<\/li><li>The \u201cthree strikes and you\u2019re out\u201d policy. After committing two violent felonies any third felony will result in life in prison (p. 95).<\/li><li>Life in prison for juveniles as well as the use of the death penalty for juveniles. (p. 119). Consider Exodus 12:12-14 and Exodus 21:16. How do these validate or void the use of the death penalty?<\/li><li>Restorative justice programs that attempt to restore both the victim and offender. Can the victim and offender really be \u201crestored?\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In your paper, detail in your writing what you think the true purpose of punishment should be from a biblical perspective. Discuss possible sentences or punishment that would be most beneficial for both the victim and offender.Your paper must be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>4 \u2013 5 pages in length (not including the cover page and reference page).<ul><li>A cover page.<\/li><li>An APA approved font and size, double spaced.<\/li><li>In-text citations to support main points.<\/li><li>A reference page with full APA references for each in-text citation used for support.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Supported by a minimum of three scholarly sources in addition to your textbook.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(OK TO NOT USE TEXTBOOK.
