Museum Visit and Paper<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Each student must visit an art museum during the term in which the course is offered. This museum must be a \u201creal\u201d art museum, not a local gallery such as the Greer Museum or the French Art Colony. Try museums such as the Huntington Museum of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art, Cincinnati Art Musuem, the Kennedy Museum <\/em>in Athens. A list of acceptable museums close by: Columbus Museum of Art

HOW TO WRITE THIS PAPER: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each student must complete both PART ONE and PART TWO of the essay. See the grading rubric (bottom) for more guidance in writing this essay. You may want to take your essay to the Jenkins Center for help with the grammar, spelling and structure of your essay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Structure for writing your paper:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Narrative: (this is where you write several paragraphs about your experience in the following format.) Write a TWO PART essay describing what you saw in the museum and your reactions to both the museum visit itself, and the work you saw in the museum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 PART ONE: The first section of the essay is a description of the museum, the artwork and your reactions. In this section, make sure you have answered the following questions:\u2022 Have you visited any other art museums? If so, what were they? How did this museum compare to previous museum visits?\u2022 What did you see that surprised you?\u2022 Was there anything in the museum that you particularly liked or disliked? Why?\u2022 What was your overall reaction to the museum visit.This section should only be about half a page or so.Be sure to use proper grammar,and answer the proposed questions in paragraph format. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PART TWO: The second section of the essay should relate what you saw in the museum to what you are studying in this course. In this section, make sure you have answered the following questions:\u2022 What did you see in the museum that relates to something we have studied in this course? Be sure to include the name of the artist, the approximate date, a brief description of the work, the work\u2019s title, and if possible, a picture of the work.\u2022 How did this work relate to course content?\u2022 How did this piece add to or change your understanding of course content?\u2022 You may use more than one piece of art for this section.This section should be at least half a page. Be sure to use proper grammar,and answer the proposed questions in paragraph format. When you are done with this essay, do a word count. You should have a minimum of 1,000 words. Don\u2019t ramble on if you\u2019re short–think of something else of substance to say!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paper Rubric:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The student answered both Part One and Part Two completely and coherently. The writing is grammatically correct without typos or misspellings, includes both factual information and personal reflection, and reaches at least 1000 words. Two or more images are included.(100-85 points)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Either Part One or Part Two are not answered completely, or the answers are not clear. There may be some errors of spelling, grammar, or punctuation. The paper lacks either factual information or personal reflection. The paper may be short or have only one image.(84-70 points)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The paper does not adequately address either Part One or Part Two, contains numerous errors, or is very short (under 500 words), does not contain images.(69-0 points)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Museum Visit Paper (100 points)As a requirement each student enrolled in an ART course is required to visit a museum sometime during the course. Start researching your visit early in the semester, so you allow time to schedule your visit at a convenient time, or when a particular show you would like to see is available. After your visit, you will be writing a paper about your experience. Your paper should be a minimum 1000 words. Guidelines for writing the museum visit paper will be found on the Blackboard website for this course. There are lots of great museums within driving distance of you.
