Each student will select one of the leading causes of disease or an issue as described in Healthy People 2020 or students can select a specific identified vulnerable population and present disparities impacting the particular group. Each presentation should contain 8 \u2013 16 slides with an APA or AMA formatted reference list on the last slide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Presentations should clearly answer: (1) What we know about disparities for the chosen disease or issue? (2) What population(s) is\/are impacted by this issue? (3) What we don\u2019t know but need to know about disparities for this issue? (4) What determinants contribute to this disparity? (5) What mechanisms of focus might contribute to the reduction or elimination of the disparity with a particular vulnerable population? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
All presentations should begin by introducing the descriptive epidemiology about disparities that exist for the health problem selected (who is affected, any geographic or location factors, time frame or age factors, risk factors, and causes) or by introducing a specific vulnerable population and the disparities that exist and associated risk factors. Unless you are presenting about a specific vulnerable population, it is not necessary to focus only on one population or sub-group unless the health issue primarily impacts one specific group. You can show the impact that the disparity has on various populations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Next, presentations should provide information on risk factors and etiology \u2013 what causes this disease? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
