There are three major projects within this course that follow the same storyline. In this first project, fictional clients Daniel B. Butler and Freida C. Butler are reaching out to you by email, asking for your help with their taxes this year. They sent you an email to give you some background information and ask what additional information you will need to complete their tax return. To read the email, see the Final Project One New Client Email document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this project, you will be emailing the Butlers and professionally explaining and justifying what you need from them in order to accurately do their taxes. This project represents an authentic demonstration of competency because it is a common scenario that accountants may face in the field<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In your email back to the client, you must address the critical elements listed below. When responding to your new clients\u2019 email, make sure to address all of their questions and concerns. This will help support the critical elements below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I. Identify what additional documents the clients need to provide in order for you to do their taxes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
II. Differentiate types of income and expenditures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
III. Identify applicable deductions and credits available for the clients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
IV. Explain how you utilized the IRS website for staying current in the application of appropriate tax codes and laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
