Signature Assessment Providing an appropriate education to students with disabilities in inclusive settings requires collaboration between general and special education teachers. General education teachers have knowledge of the general education curriculum and instructional strategies, but may have a limited knowledge of special education and appropriate instructional strategies or adaptations for students with disabilities. To assist with collaboration, it is helpful if school staff share some common vocabulary and resources. To that end, each candidate will develop a Manual for Inclusive Practices that will be designed for use by general education teachers. Evaluation will be based on completeness of each component of the manual using a scoring rubric. The manual will cover the areas of Learning Disabilities, Emotional\/Behavior Disorders, Mild Intellectual Disabilities, ADHD (Other Health Impairment), and Autism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Section 1: Introduction that explains the purpose of the manual and area covered (Preschool, Elementary, Middle School, or High School).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Section 2: This section requires at least three paragraphs for each disability category indicated in the paragraph above. The first paragraph should include a definition of the disability and a description of the characteristics. The second paragraph will specifically describe the types of tasks and\/or instructional activities that will be difficult for the student in your particular classroom setting. The third paragraph will discuss at least 3 distinct and specific accommodations or modifications for each disability area. Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education Candidates: Must discuss accommodations or modifications that will generally apply to the specific disability area and at least 2 core curricular areas (Reading\/Literature, Written Language, Math, Sciences, and Social Sciences). Middle Grades, High School, Art, Music, PE and DCE Candidates: Must discuss accommodations and\/or modifications that will generally apply to the specific disability area and are unique to your teaching situation\/subject. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Section 3: List of 10 internet resources for general education teachers or parents that will assist them in understanding the needs and delivery of instruction to students with disabilities. The resources should be a mix of services, organizations and information and should be specific to your subject or grade level. Each resource should include the name of the resource, web address (hot link) and 2 -3 sentence summary of the site, written in your own words. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Section 4: Bibliography of at least 15 children\u2019s books and at least 5 books geared for educators and\/or parents, about individuals with disabilities in the areas covered by the manual. Each entry should be in APA format and should be appropriate for the age\/grade of the students described in Section 1. Each entry should also include a one paragraph summary of the book, written in your own words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Section 5: Reference page that includes all resources used to complete sections 1-3 of your manual. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
