In therapy, classical conditioning can be utilized for past trauma victims or patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to assist them in navigating their emotions after the traumatic incident. 2) Operant conditioning is a form of learning that strengthens behaviors based on external rewards. Therapeutic use of operant conditioning is when a client opens up about past traumas. In turn, the therapist informs the client of how important and valuable it is to reveal such information, thus reinforcing the client&#8217;s behavior to reveal more information. 3) Vicarious learning is the act of learning through the observation of others. Vicarious learning can be used with a client with agoraphobia by showing the client that their perceived phobia is irrational. 4) Cognitive schema is an individual&#8217;s perception of the world\/society that influences their mental processes\u2014utilizing cognitive schema demonstrates a client&#8217;s distorted views of their reality. 5) Rule-governed behavior is learning through hearing and reading information without ever experiencing it. A therapist can utilize this concept by assisting clients in desensitizing them to phobias.
