Women, Feminism and Gender in Islam

To write the literature review, select at least three readings pertinent to your chosen topic. At least ONE of these must be an essential reading for the course. The essay should make an argument about the literature, identifying common themes and highlighting points of agreement and disagreement in emphasis or analysis among authors. You may choose to focus on differences and commonalities in empirical substance, convergent or divergent theories, and/or different methodological choices. A strong literature review will also draw conclusions about which particular approach is most convincing or useful and why.

essential reading of the course chosen: Ahmed, Leila. Women and Gender in Islam: Historical Roots of a Modern Debate. Revised ed. edition. New Haven London: Yale University Press, 1993. Chapter 8
