Week 1 Journal Entry/Reflection
1/23/22: Developed objectives and plan for project and non-project practicum activities from 1300-1800. The objectives/plan was emailed to faculty advisor for review and approval.
1/27/22: Squire 2.0 training: 5 practicum hours documented for completion of Squire 2.0 training within the Canvas course.
1/29/22: Ethics and Publishing in a Journal training exercise: 15 practicum hours documented for completion of journal publishing exercise within the Canvas course.
Discusses Knowledge or Skill Developed
The Squire 2.0 training and Ethics and Publishing training were both very informative. The exercises support and advance the knowledge that I will need to complete my manuscript for this course. I will likely need to refer back to the resources frequently as I begin to write the final portions of my paper and edit/revise the written portions. I really enjoyed identifying publishing requirements, as they vary from journal to journal. I now know how and where to locate the manuscript submission length requirements, abstract requirements, reference requirements, etc. I identified nursing journals that would be most appropriate for me to submit my project to. I also emailed my query letter to the editor for the Nurse Educator journal, Dr. Marilyn H. Oermann. I was surprised at how quickly she responded. She replied to me within 8 hours and let me know that my paper would be of interest to the readers of Nurse Educator. She also mentioned, however, that since I only have student perception that I might consider submitting my manuscript as a teaching innovation. A teaching innovation is one of the types of manuscript submissions that this particular journal accepts for publishing.
Discusses How Activity or Activities Relates to One or More DNP Essentials
The Squire 2.0 and Publishing in a Journal activities relate to DNP essential III. DNP essential III emphasizes clinical scholarship and analytical methods for evidence-based practice. My objective for these activities is to use information technology and research methods appropriately in order to analyze data to generate evidence for nursing practice.
Discusses the effect of Activity or Activities on Career
The completion of these activities will assist me in writing my final manuscript and meeting the necessary requirements for journal publishing if I decide to take the publishing route. This information is useful not only for this practicum II course, but in the event that I participate in future projects or research, I will be well informed on the publishing process for manuscript submissions.
What was Achieved or Not Achieved in this Activity that the Learner Expected? The completion of non-project objectives was achieved this week. I had no expectations for this week that I was not able to achieve based on the particular activities that I selected to complete.
1/30/22: 1hr Journal Entry/Reflection for Week 1.
