The women in both books have somewhat similar stories.

Objective: Provide a compelling, textually supported literary analysis of two novels we have read in class, Juan Rulfo’s Pedro Paramo and Rosario Castellanos’ the Book of Lamentation. Choose one of the female characters in the novels—for instance, I chose to write about Catalina Diaz Puilja from The Book of Lamentations, and Eduviges Dyada from Pedro Paramo have a certain common ground of how they are treated among the women and how they take on the challenges of their fate. Need to analyze their role in the narrative or critique their representation. You may combine different stories if you locate a certain theme or a link between the representation of two or more female characters in the novels. In your analysis, you should employ appropriate literary terms from our literary term handout to aid you in your analysis. Your analysis should be well supported by textual evidence. The summary should be kept to a minimum: remember, it is the analysis and the evidence you present that is key to a successful paper. Paper Requirements: A well-developed thesis statement exploring a theme or themes in the story/stories 1250 words, (5 full pages) double-spaced, 12 pt.
