NURS 4450: “The Shift” Assignment
Students will choose one of the listed topics below and complete a reflective paper. The paper
should be at least two (2) pages in length – double-spaced and in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font.
Students should use specific examples from the novel and cite appropriately. APA format
should be used (for both in-paper citations and the Reference page). Points will be deducted
should any of these guidelines not be followed.
Topic #1: Patient Safety
• Identify two potential or actual patient safety situations in the novel and the actions
(interventions) taken by nurse to prevent or resolve the situation. Would you have done
anything differently? Why or why not? What did you learn from this and/or how can
you apply this to your future practice?
Topic #2: Interprofessional Communication
• Identify two interprofessional interactions that were a potential or actual conflict.
Describe how the conflict was or was not resolved. Would you have done anything
differently? Why or why not? What did you learn from this? What did you learn from
this and/or how can you apply this to your future practice?
