Explore one of the themes (entrapment of women) in a research paper of about 1500 words (six pages, excluding the works cited page).  The paper should compare or contrast three pieces of literature, which share a common theme and analyze how each author skillfully uses one or two of the literary techniques in conveying the theme. (Examples of literary techniques:  characterization, conflicts, symbolism, similes, metaphors, imagery, diction, irony, setting, etc.)

Primary Sources – Short stories, novella and the play (select at least three piece of literature)

1. Trifles by Susan Glaspell 2. The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman 3. The White Stocking by D.H. Lawrence 

Secondary Sources – Author’s biography; literary criticism of the author’s work; quotations from the Bible or from an encyclopedia as well as other reputable secondary sources relevant to your topic.

• The three pieces of literature should share a common theme/human experience. (entrapment of women)
•  The comparison or contrast must be based on the analysis of selected quotes.
• The discussion must be supported by evidence from secondary sources (examples of secondary sources: literary criticism, research on the social and historical framework of the selected pieces of literature, author’s biography, research on the human experience/theme being examined in the research paper).
• The paper must follow the nineth edition of the MLA citation format in documenting all sources.
• The length of the paper should be 1,500 words (six pages excluding the works cited page).
• The paper must have a meaningful title, that reflects the thesis.
