This could be an area of intense social scrutiny, a recent ‘hot trend’, or a set of taken for granted assumptions that you wish to challenge. You might set your discussion in a particular educational context (e.g. school education, higher education, special needs education) or in relation to a particular technology or technology type (e.g. social media, LMS technology, AI) or more broadly in relation to an aspect of ‘education’ or ‘teaching and learning’.

In your essay, include a section that reviews at least eight relevant published articles. These can be drawn from the required and additional readings or from other articles you identify in the research literature. In this section, you should show the progression of your thinking and reading and the relevance of the articles to your overall argument.

Your essay should be written with appropriate reference to the material covered throughout the unit, including to the frameworks and theoretical approaches we have examined in the research literature. You should focus on integrating evidence, critical analysis and personal opinion into an argument that shows how you can think ‘beyond’ a specific technology that might interest you, to consider the broader system-level factors (social, historical, economic and cultural).
