CLASS PROJECT CURRENT EVENTS: 1. See “Sociological Topics List” in Module 1 or Files in Canvas for possible topics. 2. Select a general topic or category from the list provided. Then select a more specific topic to enable you to locate articles. Examples: Family/divorce or child abuse; Health/covid-19 pandemic or healthcare costs. 3. Use 4 articles from well-known / reputable sources only. Examples: Time/Newsweek magazines, L.A. or NY Times, American Sociological or Psychological Journals from 2018-2022. Two articles will be “Pro” and 2 will be “Con” on your selected issue. Example: 2 articles are pro gun control/2 articles are against gun control. Or, 2 articles are pro abortion and 2 articles are against abortion. 4. Paper is approximately 4 numbered pages, typed, 12 font, MLA format, double space, cite sources (works cited page) and attach links to articles on the works cited page. Make sure link will open. Current events must be between 2018–2022. This is a very interesting and eventful period! 5. Paper has a title page with identifying information regarding the class, student and the articles. (example: Sociology 101, class section # 16548, student’s first/last name, general topic and subtopic). 6. Paper includes four sections/labels an introduction, summary, conclusion and a critique. 7. The introduction should introduce the topic, why you selected it and name sources with the authors’ emphasis. Summarize the entire contents of the sources. The conclusion is about the student’s analysis of the issue/topic. The critique is the student criticizing the sources. 8. Submit papers (word doc or pdf, no google docs) in the Canvas Inbox as an attachment to a message. When students send this message, indicate, “CURRENT EVENT” IN SUBJECT LINE!! DUE DATE: 11/30/22. 9.
