Your paper should be organized with the following subheadings (each section worth 20 points). A late term paper submission can only attain a B grade. 1. Why is your exposure a social exposure? a. Describe why your exposure is a social exposure and not a psychosocial exposure or a behavioral exposure. b. Refer to early course readings and describe how focusing on your social exposure allows you to make recommendations to shift the distribution of risk in a population. 2. What is the best way to measure your social exposure? a. Compare and contrast at least three different approaches to measuring your social exposure. b. Discuss the strengths and limitations of the approach you use. 3. How might your exposure affect the distribution of disease in a population? a. You need to develop a broad model for how your social exposure affects disease. You should refer to the many readings we used. b. Draw a picture showing the direct effects of your social exposure on disease and the indirect effects. 4. How does your exposure get under the skin? a. Describe the biomedical evidence for why your social exposure matters. This may include multiple outcomes. Draw on the readings provided and other readings. 5. Describe the evidence on how to reduce you social exposure – include studies with positive and negative effects. b. Based on the evidence describe what can be done. c. Make at least 3 policy and practice recommendations that would lead to changing the distribution of risk in the population.

A term paper from a student who has taken this class is included as an attachment. This paper actually requires at the minimum 40 sources. I am willing to negotiate since 30 appears to be the maximum threshold for anything short of a dissertation. Additionally, I have listed as the page count (not to include title page and references) as 15. However, I would rather all portions of the paper prompt be answered thoroughly rather than be subject to a page limit (I would prefer the 15-18 range). Again, I am willing to negotiate on this. Finally, the finished paper can be no more than 25 pages.
