1.) DOCUMENT FORMATTING:
– 1” margins?
– Times New Roman font (size 12)?
– Double spacing?
– Paragraphs indented one tab?
– No extra blank line between paragraphs?
– Page numbers?
– Proper first page header (with information as listed on syllabus requirements)?
– Original title?
2.) INTRO PARAGRAPH (roughly no longer than the first page for balance):
– Lead-in?
– Context for the representational trend (concept, source type, time period)?
– Does it hold off on explicitly unpacking its sources?
– Does it end by offering the initial stage of the thesis?
3.) 3-4 SOURCE INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPHS (roughly pages 2-3):
– Does it provide context for the source (creator(s), year of publication, etc.)?
– Does it provide a general summary of the source for an unfamiliar reader?
– For film/TV/games: Are all major characters given their actors’ names?
4.) 3-5 TREND PARAGRAPHS (roughly pages 3-7):
– Claim: Is there a clear, opening statement of the paragraph’s idea?
– Evidence: Is there direct material (detailed description or quotes, depending on
source type) offered from each source? Does itall back the Claim?
– Significance: Is the Evidence fully analyzed, getting at creators’ intentions?
– Is the analysis tied together in the end to help build the portrait of your trend?
5.) CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH:
– Does the paragraph address whether or not the overall trend’s depiction is true
to life?
– Does the paragraph address what that realism/lack of realism tells us about
the values of the time?
6.) GENERAL STYLE (Mark issues as you find them):
– Does it avoid using “I”/”you”/”me”?
– Are all source titles, throughout the paper, properly formatted?
– Are there any errors in spelling/grammar/etc.?
– Are the paragraph transitions smooth?
– Are there any clunky phrases?
– Is source material properly cited?
– At the end, is the Works Cited page properly executed?
