Each week, you will be expected to complete a reflection assignment. Most weeks this will consist of both (1) filling in a table with your notes from the week’s experiences and (2) writing a short reflective synthesis of your learning: together a “Documentation of Weekly Learning” (DWL). Each DWL paper will integrate/synthesize community experiences, readings, and discussions and interpret them in terms of your learning for the week.
The substance of your reflection should be personal, connect with readings or classroom discussions through specific examples, and may include an aesthetic representation (visual, literary, or other) of your learning.
Every column is filled out completely for each of the week’s Encounter, Exploration, and Interact experiences.Partial credit may be given for missing rows (for example: not filling out a row for a required encounter or for you interact discussion, filling out a row or rows in the explore section totaling fewer than 2 hours of engagement), incomplete rows (for example: no concept/ idea/ insight, but encounter is named and a related quote is given OR encounter is named, a concept/ idea/ insight is given, but no related quote or example is filled in), or incomplete or surface level responses.
Commentary reflects one or more substantive connections between the various ideas and experiences of the module.Connections require specific reference to multiple (2+) materials from the week. Partial credit may be given if a connection is made but not tied to specific module content, or for connections that are overly general.
Commentary reflects one or more connections between at least one of the experiences/ideas in the module and some aspect of your personal life.Connections are specific and tied to specific module content. Partial credit may be given for connections that are overly general (for example: “I learned a lot about myself this week.” It’s “personal,” but super vague. What did you learn? From engaging with what material?)
