Scenario: Smart Insurance is an insurance company that provides medical health covers to the citizens, residents and temporary workers. The UAE-based company has established a new partnership with a software development company to develop a mobile app that uses the information from smartphone sensors to monitor the physical activity of the user of the phone. The app sends information to the insurance company and it uses the information to calculate various health risks for the user. The Insurer (The Company) can calculate users’ health insurance premiums on the basis of their risk profile. Smart insurance grew out of a small group of individuals who offered insurance services and so is currently structured as a partnership firm. Now assume that you got a new job with Smart Insurance and started working for about a month. a) Provide brief notes that identify potentially sensitive information that the smartphones could provide to Smart Insurance. b) Provide brief notes on the privacy issues that might arise from the ability to access such information. c) Smart Insurance is particularly concerned about discrimination. Provide brief notes for your company on this issue in relation to the proposed mobile app. d) Your boss has asked you to write short notes on the ethical issues arising from the collection and use of such data. Provide brief notes on this. e) The company is concerned that it may suffer litigation dues to privacy violations. Comment on the suitability of the current organization structure and suggest an alternative. Your answers should be precise and to the point. Better would be to answer each part in 4 to 5 bullet points or numbered points; keywords/key concepts used in your answer shall be highlighted in bold in the flowing text (each point). As a guideline, each part (a) to (e) above should be answered in 80-100 words limit (or, to keep things simple, each bullet/numbered point should be explained in approximate 20 words).
