1. Chose any poem from the list to analyze. (750-1000 words, 2-3 typed, double-spaced pages in 12-point font)2. Identify the main idea or emotion conveyed in the poem and show, through a careful analysis of the poem, how the idea or emotion is conveyed. 3. Consider formal elements such as rhyme as well as figurative language. You may not use secondary resources for this essay: the point is to engage with the language of the poem and to interpret and respond to it. 4. I am interested in your ideas and your responses and in how well you can present and support them with reference to the poem—i.e. how you find evidence for your analysis in the poem. 5. The poem must be quoted in the essay and must be cited using MLA style.
