This is also a time for dramatic growth in all domains of development. There are many changes happening during adolescence including physical changes related to puberty and sexual development, cognitive changes, and social and emotional changes. There are also many risk factors and protective factors related to adolescent development. You are tasked with identifying an adolescent character from a television show or movie of your choice and writing a 2-4 page paper analyzing the character, considering multiple factors of adolescent development. You do not need to exhaustively identify every factor of adolescent development, as what information will be highlighted in the media portrayal will vary depending on which character and media you choose. You should identify at least THREE separate areas to discuss. Examples could include physical development, moral development, racial identity, sexual identity, gender identity, class identity, emotional development, or cognitive development. Identify the television show or movie that you chose and the adolescent character. Provide a description of the character’s basic demographic characteristics (age, gender, family composition, etc.) 2.) Choose three areas of adolescent development and: a. Provide information on that area of adolescent development as it relates to your character. b. Discuss information of protective factors related to that area that are present for that individual. c. Discuss information of risk factors related to that area that are present for that individual. 3.) Conclude with a discussion of what you think the likely outlook is for that individual’s development, i.e. how might they turn out as an adult related to these specific areas.
