- Personal Leadership Motto/Mission Statement (20 points)
- Identify your personal leadership motto/mission statement.
- You may develop your own statement or use a quote or mission statement from a well-known leader.
- Example of a leadership motto: “Leadership: the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it” Dwight D. Eisenhower.
- Explain WHY you chose that motto. Why is it relevant for you, specifically (think about your personality, interests, skills, experiences, and goals)?
- Identify your personal leadership motto/mission statement.
- Admirable Leaders (30 points)
- Describe three leaders that you admire. Look for people who demonstrate the type of leader that you want to become and consider the role or industry that they are in. For at least one of the three, try to choose a leader with expertise in an area that aligns with your career goals (e.g. HR, Engineering, Teaching, Finance, Aviation, Public Service, Technology, etc.).
- Provide at least one paragraph for each leader. Identify the primary leadership style that each of them uses (referencing information from Wk3) with specific examples that will demonstrate that you understand what each style is and why those styles work for those leaders.
- My Leadership Style (30 points)
- Go into more detail about your personality (referencing your personality test results) and your interests, skills, experiences, and career goals.
- Identify the leadership style that makes sense for you (referencing information from Wk3) and explain why that style makes sense based on your personality, interests, skills, experiences, and career goals.
- Signature Strengths (30 points)
- Identify three of your signature strengths and provide specific examples to demonstrate why those are strengths for you. You can reference the key leadership competencies from chapter 4.
- Discuss what you can do to magnify those strengths (see chapters 5 and 2).
- Areas for Improvement (30 points)
- Identify at least one specific area where you need to improve. Ask for feedback or help from a trusted friend or mentor to identify any fatal flaws (from chapter 7).
- Why is that the most important thing for you to focus on in order to grow as a leader?
- Provide specific actions that you can take to improve in that area.
- Key Takeaways (30 points)
- Please list two lessons or takeaways from this class that you can apply to developing your own workplace leadership skills in your current or future industry. Explain.
- Why are those two things relevant for you based on your personality, interests, skills, experiences, and career goals? How will you apply those lessons? What results do you expect to see based on applying these new insights?
