Paradise Lost

  1. Choose one book from Milton’s Paradise Lost that is provided in the following lessons: “Paradise Lost: Book I” and “Paradise Lost: Book VII, Book XII.”
  2. Choose one character from the section of your choice. You may choose from the list below or select another character.
    • Adam (Genesis 3; Romans 5:12-21; 1 Corinthians 15:45)
    • Eve (Genesis 3, 2 Corinthians 11:3; 1 Timothy 2:13-14)
    • God (Job 1:6-12; Hebrews 2:14; Luke 10:17-19)
    • Satan (Ezekiel 24; Isaiah 14; Revelation 12:9; Ephesians 6:11)
  3. Write a journal entry of 500 words as the character you chose (first person point of view) from that particular section of the book. Include what the character may have thought, felt, said, or done in your own words. Be as creative as possible. Use the Scriptures listed to help inform your response.
  4. Create a works cited page for the Scriptures you reference and the part(s) of Paradise Lost you  reference.

Here are some questions to help you think through your character.

  1. What was this character thinking before/after the fall of man?
  2. How did this character get to where they were at the end of the story?
  3. What emotions do you think this character felt throughout the story?
  4. How can you relate to this character’s experience?
