Under what circumstances is it justified to adjust the final grade for a student
“upwards”?
As default, we assume fairness requires every student is treated equally. Are there
circumstances that justify an exception.
What your report should contain:
• one specific reason that would justify a grade adjustment that goes beyond reasons
already accepted (e.g. prolonged illness, death in the family, etc.)
• Explain why this reason is only specific to the student applying for the grade change,
not to anyone else taking the course.
• Explain how it is fair towards the other students to change the grade.
• Would your reason be accepted if you were working for a private business? Explain
why or why not.
