Final Paper (Nurses Shortage Business Proposal)
Students will write a 7–8-page paper on one of the following issues.
Taking on the role of a CNO (Chief Nursing Operator), students will write a proposal to improve retention, attract new nurses to their organization, and mentor unit-level leaders. They can take the perspective of a CNO at a hospital, health department, or outpatient clinic. The plan needs to include a discussion of how issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) will be addressed. The presentation should also discuss the economic imperative of attracting and retaining nurses.
Guidelines for the paper: See DRAFT Business Proposal (Please add as it fits)
Papers should be 7-8 pages, use APA format, and have a minimum of 5 references. References may include course materials and other peer-reviewed articles.
Suggested outline for papers:
1. Introduction (include a sentence describing your assumed role) – describe the purpose of the paper
2. A brief overview of the issue
3. Business Case Plan for resolving this issue (Note: I have modified the outlined steps in Welch et al., 2021). This part of the paper will be the basis for the Draft of the Business Plan (see below for details)
4. Briefly describe 1-2 options for addressing the issue. Which option do you feel is best?
5. Use the principles of change management and complexity leadership to describe how you would implement your solution to this issue (the option you said was preferred in step a.)
6. Describe the goals & objectives of the project and the plan for evaluating that these goals & objectives were met.
In a table or appendix: a proposed implementation timeline
Quantitative analysis: Briefly discuss the financial implications of the project. Most of your information should go in a table or appendix which lists projected costs & savings, and a formula for an ROI calculation [Actual $$ amounts are not needed as these can be hard to find. Instead, list all the resources you would need for this project and all the monetary benefits to the organization]. Make sure you refer to this table or appendix in the narrative section of your paper.
Qualitative analysis: outline non-monetary benefits, costs, and risks. Include a brief discussion of the cost of doing nothing. Discuss the moral and ethical imperative to address this issue and any implications for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Summary – Emphasize the critical points of your proposal. Remind the readers why it is vital to address this issue. Briefly highlight why your proposed solution is the best solution.
