Local report about Los Angeles

HELLO Los Angeles Area Expert! THANK YOU for agreeing to be part of this research project. To prepare for our group discussion next week, I have just TWO things for you to complete in advance. As you know, this is an important part of the project, so please spend a bit of time on this. You’re welcome to type your responses here, save the document and send it to us… but no matter what, please be sure to bring a copy with you to the discussion next week. 1. Part One: Be a Local Reporter Interview your friends and family who live nearby… You can ask anyone, and the more “local reporting” the do, the more interesting this will be! Ask at least 2-3 other people, and also include your own perspective on these topics:  What makes it great to live in the Los Angeles area? (What’s special about this metro area as a whole AND your specific part of LA?)  What are some of the things that only locals would know about (and how you know someone is really a local). If you’ve lived here a while you would know/say/do…?  What are 3-5 things (e.g. places, events, etc.) that you would miss most if you had to move far away? (Feel free to make a list of these!)  What are some of the issues and causes you care about/talk about around here? 2. Part Two: Uniquely LA Collage Please create a collage using paper 8-1/2×11 or larger. I’d like you to use words and images – ones of your own, or things you find in local publications or online sources – to showcase two aspects of the Los Angeles Area: 1) What you love to share, and 2) What you’d like to keep a local secret. You can include as many images and words as you like… the more colorful and detailed it is the better! So, your collage will have 2 SECTIONS – you can put them all on one page or have 2 separate pages… your choice. Share This: When visitors come to town, what outdoor areas/activities do you want to “Show Off” about the area where you live? Local Secrets: What areas and activities do you want to keep quiet so that they retain the locals-only feel and don’t get overcrowded? After you’ve created your collage, add a headline or theme for it. What’s the headline of this collage (beyond just “LA Stuff” – get creative!) – both what you want to share and what should stay “locals only”? It can go at the top of the collage or in the middle. It’s up to you how this looks. The more colorful the better! Finally, be sure your name is somewhere on the collage (front or back is fine). Thanks!
