Leter/Memo

React to the following scenario: You have a trusted and seasoned employee in whom you see real potential for advancement—but there is a serious flaw that could derail this advancement—ironically, this person’s strengths!

  • Be this person’s “Dutch Uncle.”
  • Using Pausch’s example in the book and the other communication themes in this assigned reading section ( The Last Lecture , pp. 57 – 104; ) , write a BRIEF Dutch Uncle “letter” to share your thoughts with this person.
  • Letter:  If you haven’t written a letter (or memo) in a long time, be certain to check for the format for a letter (or memo)  that is professional yet “friendly, and encouraging.”  Remember however that anything in any form of print could later be used for “evidence” so be professional in your wording and approach.
  • Focus of the week is on the power of communication–so be certain to provide that message clearly.
