The difference between Reagan’s speech and JFK’s in the first minute is Reagan is already boasting saying he has made two visits to Berlin, but what impact/ speech did he make on the first visit. I don’t recall Kennedy saying he went to the Berlin wall multiple times but he made an impact keeping hopes of freedom, and peacefully speaking to tear down the divide of the Berlin wall built by the Soviet Union. Also in the first two minutes, Reagan piggybacks off of Kennedy’s goal of freedom, and disruption of the line of communism. Reagan in his speech tosses more punches at the Soviets by explaining how many stages there are to dividing Europe than just the wall, telling that guard and other restrictions are preventing one from leaving this suppressive forceful Soviet regime. JFK’s speech was more towards unity in my eyes at least he wanted to bring people together, I am not saying that’s what Reagan didn’t do but JFK’s tone was more serious on not letting communism overrun and ruin the spirits of those that had hope. Reagan was more forceful with his speech evoking a sense of seriousness stretching his head out to Russia/ soviet union and speaking up
Comparing the two Both Presidents made an appearance at the Wall of Berlin to speak on the matter to Europe and its people. He also used the same phrase Kennedy did saying “I am a citizen of Berlin”. This moment I’m sure invoked hope to those that were there when Kennedy spoke, he is no different than those on the other side but the mindset. Freedom is key and with communism plaguing Europe the wall will always stand as signification and physical barrier to communism. Both Kennedy and Reagan both knew that West Berlin with strong will and confidence would thrive. West Berlin from Reagan’s speech took a turn for the better prospering with businesses booming, and an overall thriving economy, which was very much needed. Both presidents stood up for what was right and, I myself am proud of that, they are not standing in the background like (Hoover) but in the forefront pushing for what’s right.
The most significant thing Ronald Reagan accomplished as president was his communication skills, as I read on the internet. His way of reaching people was unmatched, hence the American society. His speeches truly showed the level of power the president of the united states had.
