 Area of Focus: Culture, Ethnicity, Diversity, Religion, Spirituality, Beliefs and Values, Culture and Ethnicity Nursing This group project affords the student the opportunity to build an understanding of culture, creeds, ethnicity, diversity, religions and spirituality in our society. The needs of vulnerable groups, including those of the Canadian Indigenous Peoples, refugee and new immigrant populations are examined. Additionally, this project promotes and enhances the importance of culturally sensitive care, which is essential to practice culturally competent nursing care. The student will demonstrate the ability to research and understand culturally sensitive care and the required cultural humility and how it will affect the care they will provide. The student will examine the perspective of ‘health’, illness and disease’ for the selected vulnerable groups and identify the needs of these groups. the roles of family and the member within the circle of care. This group work will help the student demonstrate sensitivity to diversity in the classroom, understand group working relationships and dynamics in addition to demonstrate effective communication.
