1. There are two general pathways of circulation: (1) pulmonary circulation and (2) systemic circulation. For each circulatory pathway: Which side of the heart pumps blood into circulation? Which great vessels (those associated directly with the heart chambers) are involved in circulation? When is the blood oxygenated? Deoxygenated? 

2. There are four valves found within the heart. For each valve: Provide all possible names. Between which structures is the valve located? What is the function of the heart valves? 

3. Which layer of the heart wall accounts for the difference between the right and left ventricles? Which ventricle is thicker? Explain your answer. 

4. In the video, the instructor uses some colloquial terminology to describe the anatomy of the heart. The “heartstrings” are which anatomical structure? The “roots of the tree” on the ventricular walls are which anatomical structure? 

5.  What are the five steps of the cardiac cycle? For each step, state which events of electrical conduction are occurring in parallel, or at the same time. 

BONUS QUESTION: For 1 pt. of extra credit, state one reason why the video instructor should be wearing gloves. Be specific.
