Health, Wellness & Medical Tourism

Based on the form of Special Interest Tourism presented in assessment 1 (annotated bibliography) you are required to write a report detailing various elements of that form of Special Interest Tourism. (Health Wellness & media Tourism)

NOTE that the term ‘report’ is used in a general sense for this assessment piece in which it is expected that the paper will include an appropriate system of subheadings, including an Introduction and Conclusion. This report will follow a ‘formal’ report structure, it is expected that it will include:

•         A title page;

•         A synopsis or abstract (of no more than 200 words) that provides a summary of the paper. Note that the synopsis or abstract should not be confused with the plan of the paper, nor should it be confused with the introduction to the paper;

•         A table of contents;

•         Introduction;

•         Use of appropriate subheadings around which you are able to organize your content and discussion;

•         Conclusion;

•         Use of relevant references to support your discussion. Note that the references consulted must include more than the set readings for this course. It is expected that the TEN academic references used in Assessment 1 will be used throughout the paper. A minimum of TEN new articles should also be used (20 total minimum). References must be correctly acknowledged using the Harvard system of in-text referencing;

•         A Reference List correctly arranged in alphabetical order by author surname;

•         An Appendix of relevant materials to which you refer in the main body of the paper.

Task

On the basis of annotated bibliography on the form of special interest tourism developed in Assessment item 1), prepare a report that:

•         Discusses common characteristics of the selected form of special interest tourism;

•         Explores how this form of special interest tourism can be distinguished from conventional mass tourism (CMT);

•         Examines the motivations of tourists who engage in this type of tourism and the market segment/s which currently participate in this form of tourism;

•         Analyses the positive and negative impacts of this form of special interest tourism on tourism communities;

•         Analyses the elements of risk associated with this form of special interest tourism and detail strategies companies utilise to minimise these risks;

•         Provides recommendations for future growth and sustainability of this form of Special Interest Tourism. Note that your discussion of each part of this assessment should be supported by relevant statistical data, reference materials, and use of tourism texts and journal articles as appropriate.
