Film Reaction Paper: The New World
*****WARNING ON PLAGIARISM AND ACADEMIC DISHONESTY*****
I strongly suggest that you review the course policies on plagiarism and academic dishonesty before turning in this paper, to be sure that you have properly followed all citation procedures. This paper does ask you to use outside sources, so it is perfectly appropriate—even necessary—to do so. However, be sure to clearly indicate the origin of your materials, through proper citation and quotation marks.
You should use whatever style of citation you are most familiar with: MLA, APA, Chicago—whatever you know. Just be sure to cite your sources, and to be consistent.
Writing Prompt:
This assignment is based on your viewing of the film, The New World, directed by Terence Malick, which is posted to our Canvas site. After you have viewed the film, in its entirety, you should find two separate reviews of the film online.
In your essay, you should build an argument as to which of the reviewers you agree with (or neither, or both). You should explain why you agree (or disagree) with them. You should provide specific examples from the film to support your opinion. Examples could include the summary of a part of the movie, an example of dialogue, a description of costumes, a critique of acting—just to name a few. You should also, in no more than one paragraph, summarize the plot of the movie. Finally, in no more than one paragraph, you should also explain whether you liked the movie or not, and why (or why not).
