You will create an exhibition! You will act as curators designing an exhibition of artworks that explore a theme. Curation is important in that you have a large influence on museum visitors. You are responsible for presenting the artwork in some way that people can relate to. We will discuss and look at exhibits and the importance of selections, order, and colors that make an exhibit not only attractive but easier to grasp. It is not as easy as you might think! The project involves the following components:
–You must come up with a theme within the scope of the course. The theme can be anything (ie: the female figure, representations of power, representations of deities/gods, the evolution of Christian imagery, etc). Be creative and pick something you are interested in or want to learn more about! Your topic must be something that you could illustrate to the “public” without too much writing and with only 10 works of art. This project is meant to be fun and involve creativity while allowing you to learn more and apply your knowledge of Art History in a real way.
-Project proposal: Explain your theme and ideas as to the artwork that might be used. You are limited to artwork within the scope of the course (Western art from prehistory to Gothic). This is a way of beginning the project, finding a focus, doing a little basic research and for me to see if you are on the right track. Please include what format (Powerpoint, poster, diorama, Word doc, Prezi, or other) that you are considering. If you are considering more than one idea or have questions you can include them in this proposal! One-page, double space minimum. Worth 10 points.
