Communication Skills -Audience Analysis (Discussion Response)

Please respond to the following. Thank you

1. List the two most important questions you want to ask the president about the demographics of your audience.

  • I would ask the age of the audience.

This is important because the things in a speech that would keep an audience of younger people compared to the older generation are different. The examples I would use for the younger generation would be funnier and relatable to cartoons. The older generation I would use western movies and older rock music.

  • I would ask what the income and positions within businesses is.

This is important because every position has different responsibilities within an organization. You need to know the skill levels and knowledge levels of the audience. This will help ties into question one, also.

List the two most important questions you want to ask about the situational traits of your audience.

  • I would ask what the knowledge and skill levels of the audience are.

This will tie into question two of my demographic questions. It is important to know the skill and technological knowledge of your audience, so they can relate and stay interested.

  • I would ask what the size and set-up is of the room.

This is important because the speaker needs to know where the door is for distractions of people entering and exiting. The size of the audience and the speaker set-up, so the audience can hear clearly.

2. Audience Demographics

  • What is the age range of the audience?

This question will be important because it will have an effect on how engaged the audience already is with social media. Most Facebook users are between the ages of 25-34, and age distribution widens as age increases.1

  • In what occupations or fields do the audience work?

It stands to reason that it will be easier to engage with an audience that has a similar professional background related to the content of the speech. If you find that most of the audience works outside the field of social marketing or anything related, you should adjust your speech to be more relatable for those that wouldn’t connect.

Situational Traits

  • What is the audience’s attitude toward social media?

You will specifically be looking for a scale questions survey for this one. Does the audience have disfavorable views toward social media? I think we all have friends or colleagues who try to avoid engaging with social media as a personal principle.

  • What is your audience’s disposition toward online advertisements?

Social media marketing and online advertisement go hand-in-hand, so I think it would be important to identify the audience’s dispostion toward advertising in general. Are they annoyed by advertisements? Are the open to learning about a company or product? Again, scale questions would be valuable here.
