Many feel that social scientists “stand on the shoulders of giants” to the extent that science is a community effort. Looking at the accounts of scientific progress put forward in the attached reading, to what extent is this true?  Does Lakatos provide an adequate middle ground between Popper and Kuhn on when a theory should be discarded?
