Primary Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 200–250 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.
For this Discussion Board, please complete the following:
Part of public administration is learning about public policy and its various types. However, there are several policies—starting at the local level up to the government level—that could affect a small community or an entire country. A major aspect to consider is that this is a system of laws, regulatory measures, courses of action, and funding priorities that may determine which policies are approved and which are denied. All of these aspects involve efforts of special interest groups trying to influence policy makers to approve or deny the policies that affect those special interest groups the most. Some policies starting at the local level are the following:
- Medical and recreational marijuana
- School vaccinations
- Camping within city limits
These are just a few ideas on public policy made at local levels going up to the government level.
For this Discussion Board, please complete the following:
- Review a small policy topic within your state (e.g., education funding, marijuana, and minimum wage), and present a brief summary of the current state of that policy.
- In your own opinion, why is this policy important?
