Developmental Disability

  2. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are at a greater risk than other people for abuse, including sexual abuse. What could be done to reduce that risk? Consider both what the person with intellectual or developmental disability might do as well as what others might do.

  4. What are the ethical ramifications of allowing or denying the right to be a parent in people with intellectual disabiliy? How can parenting rights be balanced with what is in the best interest of the child?
  5. Watch this TED Talk by Temple Grandin https://www.ted.com/talks/temple_grandin_the_world_needs_all_kinds_of_minds  Write about your impressions and discuss 3 ideas you learned from the video.  How might society make better use of the special skills of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders? (No references needed.)
  6. If you were a caregiver of a person who has Down syndrome and is in his or her early 40’s what would you need to know about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias?
