a.  Give Hume’s explanation of the process by which we infer a general (inductive) conclusion on the basis of a number of similar examples.

b.  When Hume argues that this process is not “founded on reason”, is he criticizing the process (that is, saying there is something wrong with it)?  Explain your answer.

c.  On Hume’s view, as you interpret it, what is the purpose and value of scientific knowledge?  Explain your answer.
