Instructions

1) Describe 3 situations that tend to trigger an aggression response for you: (one paragraph) 

  • How do these triggers relate to the Frustration-Aggression Hypothesis and the concepts of displaced aggression, the arbitrariness of the frustration, and attacks/insults/social rejection? 

2) Describe how you tend to express aggression (direct, indirect, verbal, physical…): (one paragraph) 

  • How do you think your gender and your culture and your family upbringing influence how you express aggression? (Consider here Social Learning Theory, your biology, and cultural influences.) 
  • Are your expressions of aggression rewarded by others/society or punished? (Consider here Behaviorism – external rewards and punishers that make our aggressive behavior more likely or less likely to occur.) 

3) What helps you “cool down” and avoid an aggressive response? (one paragraph) 

4) After reading the section on “How Can Aggression Be Reduced?” – what specific recommendation(s) can you offer for how we can reduce the level of violence/aggression in our society? (one paragraph)
