Guidelines
Assignment Description: This assignment will consist of 2 open ended response questions. Each question has been assigned a specific point value and will be graded based on accuracy, critical thinking, adherence to formatting and word count, and appropriateness.
Instructions: Responses should adhere to the word count specified in the question instructions. Responses not meeting the minimum word count will be deducted points. Responses should consist of complete sentences, be in paragraph format, double spaced, and follow APA formatting guidelines. All responses provided by students should be scientific. Avoid the use of first-person statements or narratives.All claims made by students in question answers should be backed/supported by existing literature. Students should utilize peer-reviewed resources as necessary, providing accurate references/citations for each resource utilized. A minimum of 6 peer-reviewed references (three references per question) is required. Peer-reviewed references for this assignment should consist of articles from credible journals. Points will be deducted for every missing reference. Points will also be deducted for references coming from less than credible sources. Some questions ask for specific examples or definitions. All definitions, examples, and other “borrowed information” should be cited/referenced appropriately in-text. Examples or definitions that are not supported by a peer-reviewed reference will result in point deductions. Missing in-text citations will also result in point deductions.
1) Comparing and Contrasting the Spanish Flu and COVID-19 Pandemics. Using what you have learned throughout your time in the course, identify 3 factors you believe heavily contributed to both the Spanish Flu and COVID-19 pandemics. Identify the ways in which the factors you have identified specifically impacted things like disease transmission, disease severity, or any other key disease event/impact. Be sure to use existing literature and peer-reviewed sources to support your statements. (Between 300 to 500 words, minimum of 3 peer-reviewed references, 5 points)
2) The One Health One Medicine Approach. Over the semester this course has worked to expose you to a number of one health one medicine topics to help you develop a further understanding of the interconnectedness of human and animal populations and their relationship with the environment. Identify one disease or health outcome that you believe would benefit from a one health lens/approach. Your chosen disease or health outcome can be infectious, zoonotic, or chronic. Make sure to describe your chosen outcome and any relevant related information in sufficient detail. Explain, specifically, why you believe your chosen outcome would benefit from a one health approach. (Between 300 to 500 words, minimum of 3 peer-reviewed references, 5 points)
