Create a sketch for one main character for a story. Use descriptive language to show rather than tell the attributes of the character. Your character may be related to the work you completed for the story pitch for Milestone One or it can also be completely unrelated to that story pitch.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

In a sketch of one main character, identify and describe the following:

The role of the chosen main character in the story

The physical and non-physical attributes of the chosen main character

The character traits of the chosen main character

The character’s background, including significant events that occurred in the chosen main character’s past

The motivations and ambitions of the chosen main characterPhysical Description

• Species (human vs. non-human)

• Age

• Ethnicity

• Gender

• Height, weight, and build

• Hair, skin, and eye color

• Clothing

• Mannerisms (e.g., unique walk, “talking with hands”)

• Defies or conforms to stereotypes

Non-Physical Description

May include:

• Language(s) spoken

• Voice (e.g., tone, unique, characteristics)

• Sexuality

• Defies or conforms to stereotypes

Character Traits

May include:

• Greatest strength

• Greatest weakness

• Political leanings

• Personality type

• Philosophy (especially on current conflicts in the story’s world)

• Defies or conforms to stereotypes

• Goals and ambitions

Background

May include:

• Education

• Religion

• Work or volunteer experience

• Location of origin

• Childhood/adolescence residence

• Defies or conforms to stereotypes

Personal History

May include:

• Important events that changed the character in any way

• Greatest accomplishments

• Greatest failures

• How the character has changed over time

Relationships

May include:

• Close/best friend

• Family (alive and deceased)

• Enemies

• Other species (e.g., animals)

Conflicts

May include:

• Internal conflicts

• External conflicts

• Barriers between character and goals/ambitions
