As you look at the map, you will notice many of the countries (USA, Canada, Russia, Sweden, Caribbeans, Spain, France etc )  in which much of our clothing is produced are former European colonies. What effect do you think colonialism had on these countries? Does it explain their current position as export-producing countries?
  2. What are the benefits and challenges associated with growing globalized industries, such as the garment industry? Specifically, how do these benefits and challenges interact with issues of gender and ethnicity?
  3. Was it difficult to find clothing produced in the USA? If so, why do you think that is the case? Do you care where your products are purchased? Why or why not?
  4. Given what you see in the production of clothing in particular countries, what would you say about how this relates to Wallerstein’s world-system theory? Do these countries fit within Wallerstein’s model?
