This assignment is pretty straight forward based off of the reading attatched. Let me know if you have questions or can’t get access to the reading. Thanks!

Read Communal Coping in Personal Relationships by Tara McManus. If the topic interests you, check out this article (Links to an external site.) highlighting the new course that she teaches on stress, coping, and resilience.

Create a double spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 point Times New Roman font, .doc or pdf document. Single space the following in the upper left corner: Your name, date, section number and instructor’s name. Answer the following questions, bolding all course terms, and numbering your responses but not including the prompt:

NOTE: if you’d prefer to use a fictional family from a TV show, movie or book for question 3, that is acceptable.

  1. Define stressor. Think about Jon’s conversations with his mother. If you were Jon (or his parent), which approach would you have used to manage the financial responsibility stressor? Why? How would you have communicated that approach?
  2. Define coping. When coping with divorce-related stressors, do you think one coping approach is more (or less) appropriate than the other for families to use? Why?
  3. Explain the Model of Communal Coping. The MCC is applicable even when a family is coping with stressors other than those related to divorce. Think of a time your family (or a fictional family in a TV show/movie/book) was confronted by a major stressor. How did the family cope? How did you (or a specific character) communicate to the family to use that specific coping approach?
