Activity 7 Learning Centers

In this activity, you will explore the implementation of learning centers and the importance of designing an effective classroom. The following Reading Rockets article (Links to an external site.) and learning center video (Links to an external site.) will help you begin viewing learning centers as essential for every classroom. Review the Differentiated Process  Download Differentiated Process  Learning centers can be used for various age group, abilities and subjects. This video (Links to an external site.) explains math centers for early elementary. Please read Chapter 5 & 6 of our textbook to also assist you with this activity.  

Instructions: As part  of your 15 hour Field Experience component of this course,  interview and observe a teacher implementing centers AFTER you have reviewed the material and resources above. Discuss advantages and disadvantages of center use as the teacher views centers. How does the teacher work learning centers into the daily schedule? How does the teacher see learning centers contributing to the encouraging classroom  environment? How does the teacher use learning centers as differentiation for students? Compare your findings from the teacher interview with what our text and other resources discussed above regarding learning centers. 

Provide a 2 page double spaced document describing your interview and observations.
