academic misconduct appeal letter

Dear …

I am writing my appeal for the academic misconduct I have engaged in. I was very upset receiving a letter informing me about the decision that was come up with. I am writing in hopes I get the decision overturned. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain what I have done and the chance to appeal.

I don’t mean to make excuses for what I have done, but I would like to explain my case in all honesty. After receiving my exam on March 29th, I looked over the exam before viewing the answer key, and I was almost positive that my exam was graded incorrectly. Once I got home I compared my exam to the answer key. As I was going over my exam with the answer key, (professor name) provided, I did see where my answers and the answer key didn’t match, but did have the same results (final answer). At the moment I thought I just didn’t make my answer on the exam clear enough, so I did add to my answer to make it more clear and submitted it for a regrade. At no moment was I trying to fool (professor name) or try to engage in any form of academic misconduct.

I do understand that what I have done is wrong and I want to apologize to (professor name) and to whomever I have disrespected in my actions. I understand that I should have communicated with (professor name) about my issue. Please this incident that led to my academic misconduct doesn’t define me as a bad person or a bad student. I just made a very bad unintentional decision. I hope you will give me a second chance to prove myself as a honest good student. I hope I can get this decision overturned and not receive a F as a final grade. Thank you for considering this appeal.

Sincerely,
