In an essay, discuss AT LEAST THREE specific examples from California History since 1900 of people, groups, and/or institutions resisting growth for the purposes of protecting some aspect of life in California. 

Your discussion of EACH example should answer the following in detail: 

• WHO is the group / institution / people you are identifying as resisting growth?
• WHEN was this growth happening, and what was the historical context for it? (What was happening at this time that might help explain this growth?)
• WHAT was the kind of growth at issue, and WHAT were the changes it brought (or seemed to bring)? 
• HOW did these people / groups / institutions respond to growth? 
• Most importantly: WHY is this form of resistance to growth significant? What does it tell us about how California has changed since 1900?
