This section is all about looking ahead to your post-college plans. It includes a reading about careers in language, and some activities designed to get you thinking about your career and to help you prepare your resume.
After reading the chapter, please read the self-assessment handout and make notes for yourself, then complete the career exploration exercise in some detail. You’ll use this information in the reflection essay at the end of the module. You don’t have to share the results of your career exploration – this is for you.
Please read this handout(Career Self-assessment)and make notes for a few minutes about your VIPS (Values, Interests, Personality and Skills). You’ll use these notes for the next exercise.
Start with your notes from the previous handout and complete the exercise included in this handout. You’ll ideally probably want to give yourself a reasonable amount of time to think through the steps of the exercise. Make notes for yourself as you go. You’ll reflect on the results of this exercise in your reading notes and also use them for the reflection essay.
Make one set of reading notes covering the main ideas contained in the texts from this section:
- Jackson (2006) on careers in language
- Career self-assessment and exploration
I provided the self reflection notes word document in the details for you. that should be the one page.
and for the other page, if you could do the self-assessment with the career exploration together on that last page.
As with the other part of this module, this set of reading notes is a bit different. Again, I’m not so much interested here in you reporting on the concepts that you read about, but rather on your own reflection on doing the career exploration exercise, what you learned from updating your resume, and what you took away from this exercise in planning. Please interpret the normal notes format somewhat liberally. Perhaps the 3-5 main ideas should instead be the 3-5 main takeaways from your reflection.
