using SPSS to analyse data

Suppose that you have been commissioned by Monash University to draft a brief research report to understand the effectiveness of Monash’s communication strategy regarding their environmental sustainability initiatives. Your marketing research team has drafted a survey questionnaire called “Monash University Environmental Sustainability Survey” and collected data from Monash University staff and students. These are available to you as “the Sustainability survey” and “the Sustainability data.
Before attempting this mini-task you should look through Week 9-10 Lecture Notes.

Open the Sustainability Data in SPSS using Monash MoVE. We want to test a few hypotheses from the data. For each of these RQs, • Create the null and alternative hypotheses.• Choose the appropriate test and state why. As part of your reasoning, state the variable(s) or survey question(s) from the data and their measurement scales. Also mention the type of comparison you are performing. • Test the hypothesis using the data using SPSS. For this part, include the SPSS output of the relevant test. • Report your findings. For this part, report the appropriate p-value and interpret the test results.

1. RQ1 – Is there an association between concern for climate change (Q6) and willingness to take the Monash Environmental pledge (Q31)? (4 points) 2. RQ2 – Does respondents’ willingness to take the Monash Environmental pledge (Q31) differ by gender (Q47)? (4 points) 3. RQ3 – Does respondents’ average awareness of Monash’s carbon emission reductions (Q12) different from their average awareness of Monash’s waste prevention intiatives (Q16)? (4 points) 4. RQ4 – Is there an association between awareness of Monash’s waste prevention intiatives (Q16) and gender (Q47)? (Hint: You may need to create a new categorical variable by recoding Q16 ratings 1-4 as “low awareness level” or “1”, 5-7 as “high awareness level” or “2”). (5 points) 5. Briefly (2-3 sentences) summarize the results and managerial implications of these RQs. (3 points)
